Days Of Our Lives (DOOL) star Bill Hayes, who portrayed Doug Williams on the sudser, has died at the age of 98.
A representative of the soap announced his passing on January 12. “It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our beloved Bill Hayes,” the rep informed PEOPLE. “He and his wife, Susan Seaforth-Hayes, remained the foundation of the Williams-Horton family, spanning more than 50 years.”
Since the announcement, many who knew him paid tribute to the actor. “Although we are grieving and will miss him, Bill’s indelible legacy will live on in our hearts and the stories we tell, both on and off the screen,” said Executive Producer Ken Corday.

“My thoughts of comfort are with Susan and all the Days fans that have lost a friend. RIP dear man,” Kassie DePaiva, who portrayed Eve Donovan, posted on Twitter.
“Thank you for welcoming me, the girl from Boston, with warm open arms on my first day and all the days that followed,” Kristian Alfonso, who portrays Hope Williams Brady, posted on Instagram. “You were a true icon. My heart is broken.”
Fans also expressed their appreciation for Hayes on social media. “Many fans have said to me that losing Bill Hayes is like losing a member of their family,” a viewer posted. “That’s how much he touched the hearts of us all.”

Hayes was a mainstay on the soap for decades, as his character debuted in 1970. He won a Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. He leaves behind his wife Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie Williams) and his son William Foster Hayes IV.
